Dr. Zoltán Magyar: Hosting the Junior Worlds is a major sports diplomatic success
The Hungarian Gymnastics Federation was in the forefront of the proposal to hold a Junior World Artistic Gymnastics Championships for the first time ever. Dr. Zoltán Magyar, the president of the federation talked about the conception of the idea to the press team of the Junior Worlds.
“We are considering hosting the first Junior World Championships a major sports diplomatic success. Perhaps it is not widely known, but the proposal for holding a Junior Worlds came from the Hungarian Federation” – Dr. Zoltán Magyar told.
“There were two opposing points of view amongst the experts. There was a view that junior gymnasts do not need a World Championships and there was a lobby for setting up one. We need to take into consideration that gymnasts start very early in their careers and they need competitive experience in an international level. I think it’s great that FIG gave the proposal a green light, and it’s of course joy and honour that Hungary can be the first hosts” – he added.
The Junior World Championships, at which gymnasts from 63 nations are to compete, are held from 27–30 June in the Western Hungarian city of Győr.
